There and Back Again

Davey and I just returned from a whirlwind trip home to the East coast. We've been looking for a good time to head back over that way for a while. Since I forced Davey to stay with me on the West coast for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, we owed a lot of families some visitation rights.

Upon inspecting how much it would cost for us to fly home and back, we were really surprised. Not really by how cheap it was, but by how silly some of the airlines are. Turns out it was cheaper for us to fly in and out of Raleigh vs. Atlanta. Here's the breakdown:

SEATTLE to ATLANTA non-stop for 2 PERSONS = $1,000+
SEATTLE to RALEIGH with a flight change in ATLANTA for 2 PERSONS = $500

Anyone else see something funny there?

I'll just go ahead and answer the question you're already asking: no, you can't just get off in Atlanta and "miss" your second flight. Somehow, even though the airline figures that flying THROUGH a major airport is different that flying directly TO it, they can still figure out that you didn't get on your second flight and then scratch the whole rest of your trip back. odd......clever.... but odd.

Anyhoo - flying to Raleigh actually works out best for us because that means we get to see all three sets of parents. My folks picked us up in Raleigh, we stayed with them for a couple of days and then headed down to Georgia to see Davey's parents. We actually hitched a ride with some of my parent's friends who just happen to be driving down to SC and Davey's mom and step-dad met us there and drove us back to GA.

Though is wasn't a very relaxing vacation (especially with us being on West coast time still) we were able to visit with a lot of friends and family. We had dinner with the Hall's and the Moorhouse's, shot guns with my redneck friends in Reidsville, visited with Davey's grandmothers, had dinner over at Tom and Meghan's, ate out with Lindsey, Anna, and Michael, stopped to visit at the ADX house and TX house, and even took an afternoon to go to the World of Coke since neither of us had been since the new one opened (more on that in my next post).

On Saturday we rented a car from the Atlanta airport and went to Will and Clare's wedding in Augusta, GA. Everything was beautiful and we got to see a lot of our friends from Tech. We left the wedding around 10:30 and drove through the night back to Raleigh to catch our 6am flight back home....this time flying through Cincinnati.

We were fortunate to have great traveling weather and having all of our planes leave and arrive safely and on time. Although it was a whirlwind tour, we were so blessed to have a week with family and friends whom we miss dearly. I've said it to our families and I've even had to remind myself of it a few times: we are where the Lord wants us to be right now. He has blessed us in so many ways this past year and I believe it is because we have followed His leading to where we are right now.
