Only in the Northwest can you get something as awesome and crazy as this: Earlier this year, during the summer, the Seattle area went through a ridiculously long dry spell - if I remember correctly it was a record: 31 days of no rain. It was towards then end of this dry spell that Mt. Rainier put on a show with these amazing clouds. These are call "lenticular clouds". They're caused when the air flow is just right so when it flows of Mt. Rainier, the air gets pushed upward where it cools and condenses into clouds. Depending on how smooth the flow is, you can get some amazing cloud formations. It's usually a sign of rain within 24 hours because typically the moist flow that precedes a storm is the perfect set up for these clouds. Just another awesome part of the Northwest!
